AutoReport Window

Automatic creation of reports

General

The Auto Report Window is cooperating with the Report Window (GED). All reports all shown there. For creating reports manual you can use only the Report Window and the usual functions are described there.
This chapter of the manual explains the Auto Report Windows and its functions. Technical details about HTML are explained in an own chapter.

Der layout of the AutoReport Window

The AutoReport Window offers all its function in the menu.
Many of the frequently used functions are available as icons in tghe left toolbar of the Report Window (GED).
This window shows at the left side the list of "One-Click-Reports". This list can be extended and modified by yourself. A click to a line in this list starts instantly (after two dialog boxes which can be disabled) the creation of a report.
The right side of the window shows information about the currently used filenames and pathnames.
Located Below this are sometions which are changed fruqently. So they are listed here again.

Data structuire:

Directories (AutoReport->Options->Directories):

IRIS creates all reports as seperate directories in an own path - and it expects all templates in an own path.
With this function you can set these paths as you want and adapt them to the organisation of your harddisk. We recommend urgently to create seperate directories which are not located in the folder 'Own files'. Expecially Windows XP is using very long path to reach this folder and those long pathnames cannot be displayed properly with IRIS. The purpose of these paths is to have a good survey. And this survey is lost if superlong paths are used.
We recommend to use: c:\iris\reports and c:\iris\templates.

Format of a report:

A report has a name - and this name appears only as a directory. A report does not consist only of one HTML file but contains also often (many) pictures (which have own names again) sometimes even WAV sound files. All these files must be grouped together. THis is done by using an own folder. If you are (for example) creating a report with the name "customer-jones" then this report is writting to that path: c:\iris\reports\customer-jones\index.htm
(Later versions of IRIS might create multi HTML file reports. The will use: 01.htm, 02.htm, ...)

The functions of the AutoReport Window

The function which are labelled with (#) can be also reached by the lefthand toolbar of the GED.

File Report creation, display, printing, editing
New (leer) This function opens the (new) file manager and shows the content of the report folder. All existing reports apepar. You simply type the name of the new report (for example: customer-jones) and press ENTER or click [OK]. IRIS creates the new report folder. If a 'default' teplate exosts, then it is copied to that new report folder and opened. Else an empty report is generated.
New (AutoName) # If you dont want to type a new report name all the time then you use this function to create a new report. It creates automatically a report with the name: Year.MonthDay.HourMinute.Second
(You can easily rename the directory later with the Windows Explorer)
New (with template) # The filemanager shows all existing templates. You type in a name or select one with the mouse. The next dialog shows all existing reports. You enter a new name for the report. IRIS copies the selected template to the new report folder and starts (if existing) an automatic macro run.

Show Calls the Report Window (GED) and shows the current report.
Print not used
Edit not used

Show (Windows) # Calls the installed web browser which is linked to HTML and shows the current report.
Print (Windows) Prints the current report by using the linked Windows function. This is the same as Show(Windows) and using File->Print there. This print function is significantaly different from printing with GED.
Edit (Windows) Starts the editor which is linked to HTML files in your Windows installation. This way you can edit a report with your own HTML editor. Standard Windows XP is using the notepad editor which is not very helpful for editing HTML. But if you are having an own HTML editor installed (or WinWord) then the report will be openend with this program.
Caution: Dont forget to store your changes before you want to edit or extend the report with IRIS functions.

Template Editing, extending, creating new templates. Editing and creeating macros for templates.
Open You select a template directory and therein an HTML file. The file is opened and shown in the GED.
You can now save that template with a new name - or modify it.
Macro (autoexec) open This opens the autoexec macro which belongs to a template. This macro is started automatically as soon as the template is used for new reports.
That maro appears in the macro recorder and can be modifid there.
Caution: Dont forget to store the macro after modifications!
New template (empty) An empty file is created as a template. You can create any kind of HTML template now either with the GED or an external HTML editor.
Save as template The current report is stored as a new template. If you are opening a template for modification then you should instantly save it as new template before you modify it. Else you risk to destroy the old template as well.

Add Adding elements to the current report.
Fundamentally all new elements are added at the end of the current report.
Technical explanation: An HTML file ends always with: </body></html>. All funcitons for adding elements are scanning the current file for </body> and are inserting the new element in front of this token. Later versions of IRIS will permit to insert also at other positions (ancors, labels,..)
ThImage # This adds the content of the window ThImage as graphic to the report. The toolbar is always discarded. If activated in the options then a 'new line' is inserted after the image. If the scaling is not set to 100% then the image is imported with a new zoom. The image is still written with full resolution to the file (with all pixels)! Just the scaling of the screen display is changed. The appearance of such images on the printer depends later of the product of this factor with the printer zoom. THis is not forseeable and can be tested only experimentally with your own installation and printer. In all cases the scaling which is used here permits to easily insert many images side-by-side horizontally to a report.
Just image # alike ThImage - Just the thermal image is taken from the window ThImage.
JPEG imange #
Voice Link # For SIT files which contain an integrated sound file (voice). This copies the WAV file to the report and creates a hyperlink to it The text of this link is always 'SoundLink'
Film # If a film or image sequence is specified then this functions offers to quickly import many images into a report. The amount of images hoizontally (per row) and the selection which images from the film (ThMeas->Film->Many Images) can be done in a dialog. The images from the film are always created as a table with filenames. Customer specific selection can be realized by macro programming. See: Macro-Tools +Film
ImageWindow The current image from the ImageBase (window Image) is imported. This allows to import also PCX, JPG and BMP images. This is also important for logos, and 'visible JPEGs' together with thermla images. Sie also: Macro-Tools +Jpeg
Line Feed # A line break (line feed) is inserted (macro programming)
HTML-Token # Any HTML token can be inserted. (macro programming)
Text # A text line with a comment is inserted as a new paragraph (also for macro programming). Thsi allows to enter quickly remarks and comments which can be useful for later manual editing of a report.
Window (just Makro) # This command is recorded only with the macro recorder. Its purpose is to import ANY window from the IRIS into the report. Especially graphs from DBgph and THxyz can be imported this way. The macro should first activate the required window and to specify its size. During a running macro this command fetches always the 'top window' which has the input focus and an active title bar.
Tip: The icon in the GED allows to import windows also without running a macro.
Date # The current date is added. Often you dont want the exact time. So only the day+month+year is used.
Time # Just the current time is added.
Number (from database) # Any number from the database can be added to the report. More details see: Report manual, Macro Recorder manual.
Scale # The current color scale (from ThCOL) is imported as an image. The size can be entered. This is useful if you want to import many thermal images but not with the scale - which should be fetched only once.
Results (ThImage) # The measurement results which are shown in ThImage (histogram section or result section) are added to the report as a table.
Results (DBdsp) # The measurement results which are currently shown in the DBdsp window are imported as a table.
Caution: In most cases it is necesary to make a selection first with the DBdsp window. This function can create huge reports.

Optionen Settings for AutoReports and import of elements from IRIS into reports
Configuration This modifies the behavior of some report functions. Details see below.
Directories Settings for the default paths for storing reports and templates. Should be modified only once and then never changed again. Details: see upper text
Pagefeed A page feed is inserted into the report. Right now only the GED can detect such pagefeeds and show and print them properly. Later versions of IRIS will start new HTML files.
Image scaling This sets the default value for the scaling while importing images with +ThImage and +Image. The function can be used within macros and is almost used there.
Jpeg scaling This is the scaling for Add->Jpeg image
Auto display If this option is active then the display in the GED (Report Window) is updated instantly for every new import. This is good for creating reports manually.
Macro programmers who are doing a lot of imports in a short time dont like the fast flickering of the Report Window while a macroi is running. So that refresh can be switched off here temporarily.

Setable options for AutoReports

warning before starting autoexec macros A warning appears before an 'autoexec' macro from a new template is started. This prevents you from modified desktops or a lost modified macro.
If this warning is annoying then you can switch it off here..
warning before starting templates A warning appears after clicking a 'One-Click-Report'. This prevents you from loosing the actual report.
If this warning is annoying then you can switch it off here.

Insert 'new line' aster images (<br>) This options adds automatically the HTML token <br> after every image import. This token enforces that all images are shown in vertical direction. This is used in most cases.
If you want to import often many images side-by-side (horizontally) then you can switch off this option. You can still insert line breaks the icon 'linebreak' manually.
Image scaling The import all images from IRIS to a report can be done with a spcific zoom. Then images are imported smaller or larger into reports. It depends on your printer and your needs how this value is set.
JPEG scaling Visible JPEG images are often very large compared to thermal images. So there is a seperate default zoom factor for importing JPEGs.

[Close] This button uses changed settings only temporarily. After the next start of IRIS the changes are lsot and the old settings are restored.
[Save] The changed options are stored to disk and valid for all later starts of IRIS.
[Cancel] Changes are discarded.

Makro-Tools

Controlling the Report Generator and the GED by macros.

It is easy to create reports also by macros. The Report Window offers only a basic selection of functions. Because the users are having their own opinion about report creation IRIS offers also the feature to create also the most complex reports by macros. Such 'customer specific macros' can be added to the 'default system macro' of IRIS - and are trhen available directly in the ThImage Window. You can create, modify or extend those default standard macros yourself - or let us create them (as a pay service).
The system macro can be reached by: Macro->Options->Swap. The labels which are shown in the macro toolbar (in ThImage) are starting with a hyphen. Label (--) creates a space.

Die AutoReport functions of the default standard macro

[RepNeu] Creates a new report with the fixed name "1". Reports whose name is starting with a digit dont issue overwrite warnings!
[BildOpen]
[ >>],[<<]
Normal: Open images - and go forward and back in films or sequences.
[+ThBild] see Report->[+ThImage]
[+Jpeg] For SIT files which contain a visible JPEG and/or Sound: The thermla image is copied to the report (table). A second column contains the (reduced) visible JPEG. Below the JPEG a soud link is created (if sound exists in the file).
[FilmDef] see ThMeas->Film->Definine
[+Film] similar to Report->Add->Film

This is a very complex macro report function:
It is posible to import a film with hotspots.
A confirmation for import per image can be activated.
It is also possible to find the hottest pixel automatically and to import only images which exceed a definable maximum temperature.
A comment line can be entered for every individual image.

Extending the macro tools:

If you are missing functions for creating special macros or automated sequences then please let us know. If you can persuade us of their usefulness - or many users have the same wish - then we will extend IRIS (also quickly if necessary).
In every case we are offering the integartion of new commands and features as a pay service.

Experienced users can modify the system macros also themselves. The macro window shows the system macro with the function: Macro->Options->Swap . We recommend to make a backup of the previous system macros. They are located in the IRIS program directory and their names are: system.mac and system1.mac.
